sleeping with the devil/reza abdoh

a shot from a short movie of this iranian director

these two people are fighting with each other in spanish. i do not understand a word, but i found exactly this interesting. i could fight with you in georgian language and you could try to calm me down :)

actually the whole movie is great and gives me inspiration in terms of what kind of action we could do on stage. i like the way it is cut. just the moments.

here is the movie
sleeping with the devil

  1. yes its really good..

i like the way it references this gigantic horrorific historical american thing (which also represents the end of the utopic dreams of the 60's hippie culture). Charles Manson.

also how it keeps on refering to Geraldo Rivera (a pop culture sleazy reporter... really trash tv, but sorta, for a time, was respected..)...

so its hence coordinated with these two cultural locations. the Manson history in america..

and Geralodo Rivera (crappy reporter in pop american tv culture at one point... the 80's and early 90's)...

hence becomes bisected in a way by these two events..

    ****

i think this is a good and interesting device

    we could use similarily...

but instead of manson and geraldo

we work with say the stupid dutch guy..... always refering to him

    in this strange fragmented way

and also to perhaps the iraq war..?...and Chechnya... or Afghanistan (with maps of different assaults by first soviets then later by americans)...

i just like this way of cross-sectioning time and place with these strange un-developed (but already super huge meanings) cultural references in time/history... and in some weird ways exploring those..
