also how the model for chinese new capitalism was Singapore. Very policed. Very repressed society. Controlled at every turn.
And then today I came across this interview with a guy who develops all kinds of party drugs in the UK. He is like a big chemist developer of radical drugs. This is not just hippie stuff, but a whole new level.
Anyhow.. he mentions how difficult it is to manufacture these things in east asia and mentions that in Singapore if you are caught manufacturing such things the following can and does happen:
"In Singapore, ketamine dealers face 15 strokes of a brine-soaked rattan cane to the bare buttocks… probably in addition to execution."
So in Singapore they don't fully abstract punishment, unlike other modern capitalist states.
- and it occured to me the relationships here.. or rather perhaps just associations.. display of violence and/or passive aggression by the state (how that has changed... but perhaps is changing again)
- Stalin and the mystery of understanding what happened in the USSR (the tragedy of the failure of soviet communism)
- Singapore type capitalism being the model for Chinese authoritarian capitalism
- its a weird circle... but its there...
